Excel Resources : Excel Password Remover

My friend asked me to hack a password protected excel sheet. He has this file which he protected a couple months ago so that other people would not be able to change his formulas. However, he forgot the password he used.

I helped him out and found this tool that can remove passwords of any length and passwords containing special characters.

This Excel Password Remover tool is an Excel Add in that works fine in Excel 5.0 and above (including Excel 2000, XP, 2003 and 2007 - I haven't tried in Excel 2010).

This file would give you two extra menu item in the Tools Menu (Excel 2003). These are unprotect workbook and unprotect sheet.

Hope this Excel Password Remover can help you as well.

Build Excel Formulas

Microsoft Excel is very good at performing calculations. Everytime we use Excel we typically use a combination of cells with numbers and cells with formulas.

Here's a step by step guide how to write your own formulas in Microsoft Excel.

1. Put the cell pointer in the desired cell.
2. Type in equal sign. The equal sign tells Excel that we are starting a formula
3. Type in your equation just like in any calculator. If one of the terms in our formula is already stored in a cell in Excel, we can point to that cell's address instead of typing in the number of that cell. This method allows us to change the value in one cell and then watch all of the formulas recalculate.

Tip: Use + to add. Use - to subtract. Use * to multiply and use / to divide.

4. Press Enter. Excel calculates the formula in the desired cell.

Watch the video for more details.

Excel Trivia: Why Did Microsoft Replaced the Menus and Toolbars in 2007 Version?

If you are an Excel 2003 super user and your company decided to upgrade your Microsoft Office version you'll be shocked with the change. The menu, toolbars and task pane have been completely removed from Excel 2007.

Why did they change this?

Excel 2003 had 1,223 commands on 127 command bars. If you tried to display them all at once, you would not be able to see the Excel grid at all. I guess the image below will definitely help you visualize what I'm saying.

Microsoft figured that if it didn't make some sort of big change, this problem would only get worst in future versions of Excel.

And they come up with the current design.

Special toolbars (like Picture Toolbar, Pivot Toolbar etc) only appear when they are needed.

This trivia came from Bill Jelen of MrExcel.

Excel Trivia: Excel 2007 Color Schemes

The Excel 2007 interface has three available color schemes. You can select a blue scheme, a black scheme or a silver scheme. You can change the color scheme by clicking on the Office icon and choosing Excel Option, Popular and choose a color scheme from the drop down.

Blue Scheme is best if you are using Windows XP
Black Scheme matches the Windows Vista theme
Silver Scheme provides the higher contrast

Feel free to try it out!
